I would appreciate any discussion and comment on the information I have collected on this THOMAS Family of Kentucky. Particularly interested in making contact with any descendants of this family. Best regards, Richard W. Hopper, 3602 Holt Dr., Austin, TX 78749. THOMAS of Barren/Warren Co, KY 5198 James ^ THOMAS, born on 13 Mar 1779, Barren[Warren]Co, KY. The entire family of James and Rachel [KEMBLE] THOMAS were born in what is now known as WARREN Co, KY, being a sub-division of Barren Co, KY. OF this family of children, no record is obtainable of the oldest son James. Matilda Caroline, second child, died when about grown, and unmarried. Hezekiah Kemble, who married a Mrs. RAGLAND and settled near Bowling Green, KY, reared a large family, served as County and District Judge, later going to the Senate. John William was married in Kentucky; his wife's name was JEROME. He and family removed to Missouri, near St. Louis, making this his home to time of his death. Solon Nathaniel also removed to Missouri, settled near St. Louis; he died rather young, leaving a small family. One son, John Warren, was taken by his uncle, Robert Wallace THOMAS, educated by him in medicine, after which he lived and practiced medicine in Warren Co, KY. Thomas Stokes, young and unmarried died in Missouri. Calvin Preston was married to a Miss PARKS in Scarcy Co, AR; he served his district as County and District Judge for a number of years, his children were nine in number; namely, Dulcina, James, Chester, Seburn, Blanche, John, Robert, Rachel, and Calvin. Robert Wallace THOMAS, Sr., the sixth child of James and Rachel THOMAS; born in Barren County, Kentucky, April 26, 1811, and was married to Ann Eliza KIDD by Elder Jacob LOCK on September 29, 1835, at 5 pm, near Sinking Creek Meeting House in Barren County, Kentucky. Ann Eliza [KIDD] THOMAS was born in Dinwiddie County, Virginia, May 3, 1817. Robert was converted in 1827, uniting with the Sinking Creek Baptist Church. Shortly after his connection with the church a division arose in it between what is now known as the Primitive Baptist and Missionary Baptist. His able defense of the Missionary Doctrine gave rise to his being licensed to preach. He was ordained by the Sinking Creek Missionary Baptist Church in the year of 1834, his first Pastorate being with this church. He later did extensive ministry in Kentucky, Tennessee, Missouri, Mississippi, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, and some portions of the Carolina's and Texas. Robert and his wife Ann first resided at Pilot Knob, Warren Co, KY, moving to Popular Springs, in the same county in 1838. Here, they purchased a farm home known as the Denton farm where they remained until 1859, removing to Searcy County, Arkansas, 1861, removing to Jackson County, Arkansas, 1864, removing to Woodrough County, Arkansas, 1865, removing to Jackson County, Arkansas, 1866, removing to Independence County, Arkansas, 1869, remaining here until the spring of 1874. At this time he removed to Grayson County, Texas, later in the same year he removed to Collin County, lastly moving to Weston, Collin County, to the home of Annie Eliza and Horace W. SIMMONS, the former being his baby daughter; here he died march 16, 1893, and was buried at the MUGG cemetary cemetary one mile north east of Weston, Collin County, Texas. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. John O. SUTHERLAND. His wife, Ann Eliza continued to live with her daughter, dying January 2, 1904 at Celina, Collin Co, TX and was buried beside Robert in the MUGG Cemetary. [Furnished by a correspondent] I am working on it, but so far have not been able to zero in on any information concerning a Robert Thomas bc 1750/60. I can confirm that Robert W. Thomas and Ann Eliza Kidd were married 29 Sep 1835 in Barren Co by Jacob Lock. The marriage bond was dated Sept 21 1835 with James Kidd as surety. However, I cannot pick up on any of R.Ws siblings in the Barren Co marriage records. "Pioneer Baptist Church Records of South-Central Kentucky and the Upper Cumberland of Tennessee 1799-1899" p.276 talks about the Liberty Hill Church in Edmonson County. This Church was constituted 12 Apr 1840, Rev. Jacob Locke and Rev. Henry B Higgins with ten members. "It is likely that Peyton Cooke, Robt. W. Thomas and James M. Anderson were three of the ten charter members as they were chosen to represent this church in July 1840 at the Liberty Association. At that time they reported a membership of 16. On the 9th of May, 1840, Bro. James M Pendleton was chosen pastor of the church, who continued to serve the church as pastor until the 2nd Sabbath in April, 1843. The 2nd Sabbath in October, 1842 Bro. R. W. Thomas was ordained to the ministry, and in July 1843 was chosen pastor of the church, who continued to serve the church as pastor until June 1852. By July 1843 the membership had grown to 31, and by July 1845 it had increased to 46. During this time there had been a considerable ingathering in the church, part from the old Baptist and part by experience and baptism. During this time Campbellism made several attacks and carried off several of her members." From the same volume, p.468 under the History of Mud Camp Baptist Church (Casey's Fork) in Cumberland County, it states that R.W. Thomas was elected as pastor in June 1849. The 1850 Census of Warren Co, p.111 shows Robert W Thomas 39, Ann E 33, Matilda 13, James L 10, Robert W 6, John W 3, baby 10/12f. This is from Sistler "1850 Census, South West Kentucky" and not all the information such as birthplaces etc. is included. Same source: 1850 Warren Co, p.34.
